A New Chapter Beginning!

A New Chapter Beginning!

This is just the beginning.

Hi! I'm Lisa—a passionate educator, entrepreneur, and mom. I've spent years working in public school as well as exploring homeschooling, traditional schooling and flexible schooling with my only child in an effort to support his God given gifts and abilities. In my pursuit of an educational freedom that allowed me to explore passions deeply and rediscover the joy of curiosity, we landing on that path of artistry and authorship.

I am thrilled to announce that we have published our first children’s book series: Liam's Faith Adventures.  Designed for ages 6–9, these heartwarming stories follow young characters as they navigate everyday challenges with courage, kindness, and faith. Through relatable adventures and gentle spiritual lessons, kids will learn what it means to trust God in the little things—and the big ones too.

I officially have a writer ya'll. My son is already drafting the outline for writing our next book together and I am  beyond thrilled.

I'm so excited that I will be sharing our writing process with you. Here are the details:

Program Overview

This engaging literacy program invites young readers into the creative world of storytelling through the lens of a real-life mother-son author duo. Lisa Renea Shaw and her son Liam Shaw will read from one of their self-published titles in the Liam’s Faith Adventures series and guide students through the process of co-authoring a book.

While the selected book is rooted in faith-based themes, the workshop will not focus on religion or faith. Instead, it will center on the art of narrative writing, character development, and the joy of collaborative storytelling. Students will explore how ideas become stories, how stories become books, and how even young voices can be published and celebrated.

Workshop Highlights

  • Read-aloud from Liam’s Faith Adventures

  • Highlighting story elements of narrative writing

  • Storytelling and Hands-on Activities

  • Tips on idea generation, character building, and revision

  • Encouragement for young authors to share their voices

Learning Goals & Outcomes for Young Children

Goals:

  • Foster creativity and confidence in young writers
  • Introduce basic elements of narrative writing
  • Encourage family engagement in literacy
  • Inspire students to see themselves as storytellers and creators

Outcomes: By the end of the workshop, students will be able to:
  • Identify key parts of a story: beginning, middle, and end
  • Create a simple character and setting for their own story
  • Collaborate with a peer or adult to brainstorm ideas
  • Understand the steps involved in writing and publishing a book
  • Express their thoughts through writing and oral storytelling

Why This Program Matters

This initiative aligns beautifully with the spirit of both National Day on Writing and Family Literacy Day by celebrating the power of words, the importance of family connection, and the accessibility of storytelling for all children. It also supports the library’s mission to promote literacy, creativity, and community engagement.

A Message to Parents: Why Your 4th Grader Deserves a Strong Start This Semester

A Message to Parents: Why Your 4th Grader Deserves a Strong Start This Semester There is so much going on in the world of education and student achievement. If I weren't an educator, I would find it difficult to truly unpack how my child is being measured in terms of achievement. I would also find it difficult to truly understand how I could personally support his growth as a reader, a writer and a mathematician. Having a point of reference, example of sample performance and a resource is important. Point of Reference If you live in Georgia and your third grade child attended a public school last year, are may be aware of a test called the Georgia Milestones Assessment. This test measured your child's performance in the area of Reading, ELA and Math. According to the Georgia Department of Education, over 127,234 third graders were tested in the 2024–2025 school year. Of those: 35.4% were below grade level in reading - having a reading lexile score of lesson than 520 O...

Why I Built My Other Tongue—and What It Offers Your Family

Why I Built My Other Tongue—and What It Offers Your Family When I launched My Other Tongue Language School , I wasn’t just creating a place to teach Spanish. My intent was to build a community of learners- a supportive, immersive space where students could become confident speakers of the Spanish language. As a multilingual educator, curriculum designer, and children’s author, I’ve spent years helping students understand how to access the tools they need to communicate in Spanish with confidence and clarity.  I’ve experienced the joy of seeing wonderful connections being made between people with linguistic and cultural differences. I've witness firsthand how language can empower a child to speak up, connect deeply, and feel proud of who they are. That’s why My Other Tongue exists—to make bilingual learning accessible, meaningful, and rooted in purpose. What We Offer at MyOtherTongue.com Our programs are designed for families who want more than worksheets and flashcards....
